1. Preamble
Juris Prudentia SILJ is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic honesty and integrity.
The Journal expects all authors to submit original work and to appropriately acknowledge the ideas, words,
and contributions of others. Plagiarism, in any form, undermines the credibility of scholarly communication
and is regarded as a serious violation of publication ethics. The Journal adopts a policy of zero tolerance
towards academic misconduct and shall take appropriate action in cases of suspected plagiarism.
2. Definition of Plagiarism
For the purposes of this Policy, plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:
- Copying or reproducing another person's work, in whole or in part, without proper acknowledgment.
- Presenting another person's ideas, arguments, analysis, or data as one's own.
- Inadequate or incorrect citation of sources.
- Paraphrasing another author's work without appropriate attribution.
- Self-plagiarism or duplicate publication, including the reuse of substantial portions of one's previously published work without disclosure.
- Submitting a manuscript that has been published or is under consideration elsewhere.
3. Plagiarism Screening
Authors submitting manuscripts to Juris Prudentia SILJ must ensure that:
- The manuscript is original and unpublished.
- The work has not been submitted simultaneously to any other journal or publication.
- All borrowed material is appropriately cited in accordance with the prescribed citation style.
- Necessary permissions have been obtained for the use of copyrighted material, where applicable.
Submission of a manuscript to the Journal shall be deemed to constitute a declaration by the author(s) that the work is original and free from plagiarism.
4. Plagiarism Screening
All manuscripts received by the Journal shall be subjected to plagiarism screening through recognised plagiarism detection software before being sent for peer review.
The Editorial Board may conduct additional checks at any stage of the editorial or publication process if concerns regarding originality arise.
5. Acceptable Similarity Index
As a general guideline:
- A similarity index of up to 10% may be considered acceptable, excluding references, properly quoted material, statutory provisions, and standard legal expressions
- Similarity beyond the permissible limit may require revision, clarification, or rejection, depending upon the nature and extent of overlap.
- The Editorial Board shall consider the quality and context of the similarity report rather than relying solely upon the percentage score.
The decision of the Editorial Board regarding the interpretation of the plagiarism report shall be final.
6. Handling Cases of Plagiarism
(a) Before Publication
If plagiarism is detected before publication, the Editorial Board may:
- Return the manuscript for correction or revision;
- Reject the manuscript outright; or
- Prohibit the author(s) from submitting to the Journal for a period considered appropriate by the Editorial Board in cases of serious misconduct.
(b) After Publication
If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the Journal may:
- Publish a correction or clarification;
- Retract the published article;
- Remove the article from the Journal website and archives, where necessary;
- Notify the author's affiliated institution or other appropriate authority in cases involving grave academic misconduct.
7. Self-Plagiarism and Duplicate Submission
Authors shall not submit:
- The same manuscript simultaneously to multiple journals;
- A manuscript that has already been published elsewhere;
- A manuscript substantially derived from previously published work without proper disclosure and citation.
Reuse of limited portions of an author's own prior work for legitimate academic purposes shall be permitted only with proper acknowledgment.
8. Responsibilities of Authors
Authors are responsible for:
- Ensuring the originality of their work.
- Properly citing and acknowledging all sources.

- Cooperating with the Editorial Board in the event of any inquiry relating to originality or plagiarism.
9. Responsibilities of the Editorial Board
The Editorial Board shall:
- Conduct plagiarism screening of all submissions.
- Assess allegations of plagiarism fairly and confidentially.
- Provide authors with an opportunity to explain or respond where appropriate.
- Take timely and proportionate action in cases of confirmed misconduct.
- Preserve the integrity and credibility of the Journal's scholarly record.
10. Appeal
An author whose manuscript has been rejected or whose published article has been retracted on grounds of plagiarism may submit a
written representation to the Editorial Board within 15 days of communication of the decision.
The decision of the Editorial Board on such representation shall be final.
11. Commitment to Academic Integrity
Juris Prudentia SILJ believes that originality, honesty, and respect for intellectual property are essential to the advancement of legal scholarship.
All contributors are expected to uphold these principles and to maintain the highest standards of academic and professional conduct.
12. Effective Date
This Plagiarism Policy shall come into effect from the date of its adoption by the Editorial Board of Juris Prudentia SILJ
and shall apply to all manuscripts submitted thereafter.
